The 2.5L SUBARU BOXER® four-cylinder engine available on the 2024 Subaru Forester offers impressive fuel economy ratings, is paired with standard symmetrical all-wheel drive (AWD), and comes with a Lineartronic® CVT (continuously variable transmission) with adaptive control. On the Forester Sport, Limited, and Touring trims, the Lineartronic CVT comes with seven-speed manual mode, while the Wilderness trim gets an eight-speed manual mode. 

The Wilderness trim is unique for a number of other reasons as well. This trim is designed specifically to improve performance both on and off the road. To that end, the ground clearance on the Wilderness is 9.2 inches instead of the usual 8.7-inch ground clearance that other Forester models have. You’ll also be able to tow up to 3,000 pounds with the Wilderness trim, while the other Forester trims can only tow 1,500 lbs.
