Engine Options & Drivetrains 

There are two available 2025 Subaru Crosstrek engine options available. The standard 2.0L SUBARU BOXER® four-cylinder engine offers impressive fuel economy, while the available 2.5L SUBARU BOXER four-cylinder offers energetic performance capabilities. Both engines are standard with symmetrical AWD so you can handle all types of terrain with confidence. 

2.0L SUBARU BOXER® Four-Cylinder 

The 2.0L SUBARU BOXER four-cylinder engine is designed with a focus on fuel economy. You can reach up to 34 highway MPG with this engine, or 27 MPG in the city. You’ll also find that this engine is standard with a Lineartronic® continuously variable transmission (CVT) with adaptive control and incline start assist, which means your Crosstrek is able to handle going uphill easily.

2.5L SUBARU BOXER Four-Cylinder 

If you prefer the power of the 2.5L SUBARU BOXER four-cylinder engine, you’ll find that this engine is standard across most Crosstrek trims. It produces up to 182 horsepower, and comes equipped with a Lineartronic CVT with adaptive control, incline start assist, and eight-speed manual mode with paddle shifters. The manual mode and paddle shifters give you more precise control over your maneuvers. You’ll also appreciate the fuel efficiency for this engine — you can reach up to 33 highway MPG.

2025 Subaru Crosstrek Towing Capacity 

If you’re looking for an SUV that can handle light-duty towing, the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek can easily haul a small trailer. Most Crosstrek trims can tow up to 1,500 pounds. The exception lies with the Crosstrek Wilderness trim, which has a towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds.

The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek features three powertrains in its five-trim lineup. All of them feature a dependable SUBARU BOXER® engine that is paired with either a six-speed manual or Lineartronic® CVT. 

2.0-Liter SUBARU BOXER® Four-Cylinder

The 2.0L direct-injection SUBARU BOXER® four-cylinder engine that comes standard with the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Base and Premium trims is a flat-four engine designed with the cylinders positioned on either side of the crankshaft for minimal vibration, airflow efficiency, and optimal power flow to the transmission. A key benefit of this configuration is enhanced fuel economy. Top end power is also optimized due to its dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) engine setup.

2.5-Liter SUBARU BOXER Four-Cylinder

2.0-Liter Plug-in Hybrid

Plug-in technology that powers the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid trim brings together the gas-powered performance of a 2.0L BOXER four-cylinder engine and the efficiency of a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor. Power is first drawn from the hybrid battery, for efficiency, and you can draw more power from the gas engine if you need it.

Enjoy spry acceleration and a total vehicle driving range of 480 miles, an all-electric range of 17 miles, and a combined 90 MPGe with the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid.
